Contractors Speed-Dating To Find NGEN Teaming Partners
Teaming Seminar Helps Vendors Find Partners for the Navy’s Next Generation Enterprise Network (NGEN) Contract
Reston, Va. – July 22, 2010 – Potential prime contractors and subcontractors will find a better way to engage with each other at INPUT’s NGEN Teaming Seminar for the Department of the Navy’s Next Generation Enterprise Network (NGEN) contract on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in McLean, Va. The event focuses on the department’s transition to NGEN — the follow-up effort to its Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) contract — to ensure continuity of the service for FY 2011 and beyond.
NGEN has several components: enterprise services, transport services, independent security operations oversight and assurance (ISOAA), software, and hardware. INPUT expects several requests for proposals throughout the coming year: “Our research and analysis show that solicitations will be released for ISOOA in August, transport services in the fall, and enterprise services by summer 2011,” said Senior Analyst Lindsey Paul. “The software and hardware components will come up through various task order competitions.”
In addition, NGEN represents another step toward Navy’s vision for a shore-based enterprise network, the Naval Network Enterprise (NNE). By September 2010, the department foresees that one or more contractors and several government agencies will provide the same services under NMCI. The department also anticipates that NGEN will have improved capabilities implemented through a block approach beyond 2010 as requirements are developed and approved. The future NNE will enhance network reliability, adaptability, security, and war fighter support.
Vendors who are interested in this highly-anticipated opportunity will find the teaming seminar’s “speed-dating round” of great value, since it allows them to assess proposal needs in a personable and efficient manner. Attendees will participate in several “speed-dating” sessions, for a designated number of minutes per session. “This segment of the event is very popular,” said Jae Corey, content strategist, Events at INPUT. “Aside from networking with their peers, it gives contractors the ability to quickly gauge one another’s priorities, increase their knowledge of the opportunity’s requirements, and allows them to test out a prospective business relationship.”
Past attendees of similar teaming seminars included large and small prime contractor candidates, comprised of business development executives, strategic planners, capture managers, and proposal or technical writers. “To maximize the benefits of the event, vendors should do their research on potential prime candidates,” Corey said. “Having advanced information on their requirements is a definite advantage; it allows the conversation during the ‘speed-dating round’ to be more targeted and purposeful. It also helps to craft the best short pitch on why your business is a good fit for their needs and highlight examples of partnership success.”
