Robert Bennett

President, Municipal Software

Rob co-founded Municipal Software in 1982 and was initially responsible for all software development and technical services. Today, he leads Municipal Software as its President and provides the overall corporate vision as well as leadership in the development of new products and opportunities for local government on a global basis.

Recently he led the development and launch of Municipal Software’s Software as a Service (SaaS) offering, Local Government Manager (LGM). This new service, based on salesforce.com, allows jurisdictions that cannot use traditional solutions for local government due to their cost or complexity to now use the types of solutions that typically only larger cities and counties are able to implement.

Rob brings direct, first hand experience in the challenges and opportunities facing local government to Municipal Software. Prior to beginning the company, he spent five years working within a local government agency where he was responsible for overall design and development of regional computer applications and oversaw delivery of data processing services at all regional departments, including health, engineering, finance, planning, transit and administration.

He is actively involved in his community volunteering time as chair of the regional technology industry association (VIATeC) as well as a provincial director on the board of the BC Cancer Foundation.

He graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and a minor in Geography in 1983.
