INPUT Federal Executive Breakfast

Roger Baker

Roger Baker
Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology
Department of Veterans Affairs

Roger Baker serves as the Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Baker was handpicked by the Obama administration to lead the modernization of the VA’s records management system, which serves a community of approximately 23 million military veterans.  Baker is faced with addressing information security issues at the department and implementing an electronic health records system together with the Department of Defense.

Recently, the VA suspended nearly 50 information technology (IT) projects as a result of poor ratings in the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) IT Dashboard. The OMB’s IT Dashboard was recently launched to collect data on technology contracts as reported by agencies. This aids officials, and citizens, to identify wasteful spending and contract abuse.

Topics will include:
  • What the VA is doing to manage or restart suspended projects
  • How the IT Dashboard will continue to be used as a tool for success moving forward
  • Upcoming technology priorities within the VA
  • Potential opportunities for partnering with the VA

The event will also feature Kevin Plexico, Senior Vice President Research & Analysis Services for INPUT, who will identify major technology investments within the department and top opportunities for technology vendors in 2010.
