Earlier this month, the city of Elgin, Illinois awarded a police records management system (RMS) contract to New World Systems for $1.4 million. The contract comes more than a year after the city's April 2009 solicitation release. The three vendor finalists for the project were New World Systems, Sungard, and Visionair. In January 2008, the city contracted Deltaworks for consulting services to help with the police RMS project. The project will upgrade the city's five-year-old system, which was originally put in place as an interim solution to bridge the police department's data management needs until another RMS could be funded.
The new RMS will allow the officers of Elgin to be more efficient by providing them with up-to-the-minute information. Residents of Elgin will also benefit from this new system by being able to access police department and crime information provided by crimereports.com. Residents will also be able to report any crimes they witness to the police via the Web.
New World Systems is tasked with providing police records management, jail management, and field reporting systems. The mobile computers provided will be able to stream computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and mapping information, and will include mugshots and new fingerprint systems. New World Systems is also required to integrate the new systems with those of the fire department for full compatibility.
